Welcome to The Family Tree-Movement & Bodywork Blog

Nuturing roots for mindful living....
This is the tagline we have developed for our business. Our challenge is to pick something that conveys who we are, what we do, the clients we would like to attract and our brand promise. Pretty big task for five little words. Let us know what you think--it's a work in progress, like anything in life.

Blog debut from insomnia mama

So I've had this blog set up for weeks now and was paralyzed a wee bit by what the first entry would be. Some friends and I laugh over the things people blog, FB and twitter over and our general question is, "And you are telling us this because???" I resisted the thought of a blog for quite awhile. It was finally the urging of one of my friends and students that I write something from the heart about our business, our family and me.
This gal's first achilles heel? Insomnia. Now a good yogi would just get in an early morning meditation or restorative yoga practice. But this yogini mother hen's over the business of yoga. I write out thank you's to our new students, plan classes and sadly, check email. Though I always hesitate to respond to email at this early hour lest people see the time delivered and think, "Crazy lady for sure".  But I always feel settled after getting something accomplished without taking time from my boys.
But now I know why my insomnia Spidey-senses were tingling....it wasn't to get in a blog without the nerves or to prep for meeting with our marketing friend. My oldest is up with a stomach bug. Mama is needed.
Sweet dreams!

Nia, Nia, Nia

I'm still surprised how many people have not heard of Nia. This movement form is something that has absolutely changed my life (for the better!). I recently submitted an article for a health Q/A in a local magazine to describe Nia. If you've never heard of Nia perhaps it's time to read on....

Question: What’s the hottest trend in fitness for 2011?
Answer: It’s called Nia (pronounce nee-ah) Nia is a sensory-based movement that promotes health, wellness and fitness. It empowers people of all shapes and sizes by connecting the body, mind, emotions and spirit. Classes are taken barefoot to soul-stirring music.
Nia is intended to deliver whole-body conditioning through non-impact aerobic dance.  The physical moves taught in Nia incorporate Dance Arts, Martial Arts, and Healing Arts. Nia class is truly for anyBODY because it encourages participants to move in the way that is best for their body. So you don’t have to be a dancer, you don’t have to know martial arts, you don’t have to do yoga--you just have to want to move. Class is led by a certified instructor that guides participants of all levels by adapting to personal needs and abilities.
Nia was created in California 1983 by Debbie Stewart Rosas & Carlos AyaRosas. Classes and trainings are held in 45 countries. Find classes near you and read inspiring testimonials at www.nianow.com
Experience Nia to shake up your 2011 fitness goals. Nia Co-founder Carlos AyaRosas says, “Be careful, this just might change your life”
